Stocks were mixed at the open as wholesale prices plunged a record amount in October and energy prices fell by the largest amount in 22 years. The Labor Department reported wholesale prices dropped by 2.8 percent in October, the biggest one-month decline on records that go back more than 60 years. The 2.8 percent overall decrease marked the third straight month that wholesale prices have fallen. Bearish news hurting the market included Japan becoming the latest major economy to officially enter recession, and a further downward revision from OPEC regarding oil demand. Sectors starting the day out strong include computer hardware, home improvement retail, photo products and coal and consumable fuels while industrial REITs, soft drinks, healthcare equipment and paper products are down.
