What’s Happening In The Market Now... The market was lower at the open this morning. The Labor Department said consumer prices fell by 1 percent last month, the biggest one-month decline on records that go back to February 1947. The drop was twice as large as the 0.5 percent decline analysts expected. Core consumer prices, which exclude food and energy, fell by 0.1 percent last month, the first drop in core prices in more than a quarter-century. The Commerce Department reported construction of new homes and apartments dropped to an annual rate of 791,000 units from an upwardly revised September rate of 828,000 units, the lowest level on government records dating back to 1959. Sectors starting the day out strong include gold, application software, specialized consumer services and data processing while auto manufacturing, REITs, and oil & gas refining are down. Volume leaders include Microsoft Corp (MSFT), Cisco Systems Inc (CSCO), Research in Motion (RIMM), JP Morgan Chase and Co (JPM) and SPDR Gold Trust (GLD).
