What’s Happening In The Market Now... The markets opened the day flat as investors watch for economic data and weather reports. The Commerce Department reported orders for durable goods were up after an upwardly revised 1.3 percent gain in June. Transportation orders rose 3.1 percent in July, the largest gain since February, on a 28 percent rise in civilian aircraft orders. Crude oil prices are higher amid continuing concerns that Tropical Storm Gustav might hit Gulf of Mexico installations. Sectors starting the day out strong include mortgage finance, home construction, oil exploration & production and coal while airlines, forestry and tires are down. Volume leaders include Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc (AMLN), Solarfun Power (SOLF), Bank of America Corporation (BAC), UltraShort QQQ ProShares (QID) and J Crew Group Inc (JCG).
